Technical highlights

Extra-dry-Conditioner
   Conditioners carefully rub the layer of wax covering the crop. The forage is then deposited across the full width in an airy blanket.
  • Shorter drying period in the field, less risk from the weather.
  • Increases energy con tent by up to 10% – saves concentrates.
  • Better silage quality due to rapid reduction in PH-value.
  • No tedding (or less tedding) required, which saves time and simplifies the process.
  • Careful conditioning process reduces loss due to disintegration of sensitive leaves – providing more protein for the silage.
  • Fewer passes protects the stubble and crop. Savings of much money a hectare per year are possible as a consequence.
The The roller conditioner (CRW / RC) is especially suitable for lucerns and clovers due to its precision conditioning capabilities.


RC-roller conditioner


The new RC profile is spiral-shaped. The rollers intermesh to uniformly squash the stalks and produce a uniform blanket of forage. Both rollers are driven.

„extra dry” – wide spread system


The rotor transfers the crop past the wide spread plates. The plates distribute the flow of crop over the over the whole mowed width. Each plate can be adjusted individually. The forage is then deposited in a wide and airy blanket.


„extra dry“ – swath formation
The two swath boards and the outer plates are turned inwards to form a swath. The swath width is determined by the position of the plates.



Rotor drive
Power is transmitted from the cutter bar shaft to the rotor by drive belts. No additional angular gear unit required as a result.

The spring-loaded belt tensioner has a wide roll to adsorb power peaks effectively for jolt-free power transmission. Tension can easily be released to remove drive belts. Well protected against contact with forage. The conditioner speed can be adjusted to different types of forage. 940 rpm for high conditioning intensity and 710 rpm for more careful processing.

Single operator handling system available
The conditioner can easily be removed by one person if it is not required for a particular mowing operation.

V-shaped steel tines of hardened steel
guarantee a continuous flow of crop and an extended service life. The tines are mounted on rubber elements for elasticity. The tines are arranged in a spiral on the conditioner rotor.


Plastic fingers lower the weight on NOVACAT 225/265 ED mowers so that they can be opera ted using lightweight tractors.



The cutter bar - the new dimension
   Best crop flow
Contamination-free pickup and transfer of the crop are important criteria in mower technology for the careful processing of forage. The contoured shape of the conical mower discs increases the effect of the paddles on crop flow, lowering the drag resistance of the mower. Streamlined mower discs
Forage flows through the mower easily and uniformly. Tractor power requirement is lower as a result; dynamic crop flow means the mower is operating at peak efficiency all the time.

Optimised counter chop area
The slanted leading edge of the cutter bar allows the earth to flow beneath, separating it from the crop. There is a minimal gap between the upper edge of the cutter bar and the counter-rotating knives. This means that even heavy, flattened crop, or dry unfertilised grass can be cut to the highest quality.
Tidy and uniform cut due to optimised overlap of knife paths.
The sward is protected through the design of the smooth underside of the cutter bar, rounded skids at both ends and no sharp edges.

Assembly and transmission
Hardened mower discs
The oval, smooth mower discs are made of hardened fine-grained steel for extra long service. The sleek construction ensures power-saving crop flow.

Rotor shaft
The rotor shaft is bolted to the gear wheels. Each shaft can therefore be replaced economically if necessary.
Seal
The bearing flange and fittings are tightly sealed with a rubber O-ring seal.

Bearings
Heavy-duty, twin race angular contact bearings with a theoretical bearing spacing of 60 mm guarantee the best absorption of impacts – similar to a car axle.

Gear wheels
The bevel gears are arranged in a straight line and the disc gear wheels and idler gears are almost the same size (44 and 35 teeth). The bearing is subjected to less stress with an idler gear on either side. All gear wheels are hardened and ground for smooth running and a long service life. The teeth are 20 mm wide and there are always two teeth in contact.

Maintenance – unrestricted access
Straightforward maintenance is possible due to modular construction: bevel gears and bearings can be removed as a single unit, idler gears are also easy to remove through the large openings.

Countersprings



Pöttinger mowers exert a pressure on the ground of no more than between 70 and 100 kg. That is how the sward remains undamaged.

The pressure the cutter bar exerts on the ground can be adjusted quickly and easily using a pin-in-hole matrix.

Pöttinger cutter bars: Austrian engineering
For perfect mowing quality

First-class cutting quality, low drag resistance and stability are the trademarks of Pöttinger mowers. Engineering details and ingenious machine functions contribute significantly to harvesting quality forage. The cutter bar is a key component on disc mowers.

Cutter bars: Quality made in Grieskirchen/Austria

Disc mowers have a long tradition at Pöttinger. NOVACAT disc mower cutter bars are developed and built at company headquarters in Grieskirchen - a quality product made entirely in Austria. Pöttinger based the design on developments that have been made in drum-type mowers. The effect achieved by the paddles on the drum mower, increasing crop flow and lowering the drag resistance of the mower, is achieved by the contoured shape of the conical discs on the disc mower. The crop really flows through the mower over the smooth profiled discs. Tractor power requirement is lower as a result; dynamic crop flow means the mower is operating at peak efficiency all the time.


NOVACAT cutter bar



The sward is protected through the design of the smooth underside of the cutter bar, rounded skids at both ends and no sharp edges.

The entire cutter bar is welded and 100 percent tight as a result. The cutter bar plates are laser-cut, shaped and then welded together using two-arm robotic technology. After each cutter bar has been welded it is subjected to a dimensional check before being given approval. The mower discs are driven by gear wheels that are almost the same diameter (44 and 35 teeth). This means that at least two teeth are always in contact to guarantee the lowest stress to the teeth and the highest reliability. The gear wheels are hardened, machined and fitted with durable twin-race angular contact bearings. The gear wheels and bearing flanges are pre-assembled and subjected to a visual cleanliness check before being installed in the cutter bar. After all gear wheels and flanges have been installed, the cutter bar is powder coated for best paint quality and durability.

During final assembly all mower discs and drums are fitted and a filling of oil provided. After assembly has been completed each cutter bar is put through a test run to measure vibration and noise. It is not until all the checks have been performed and the cutter bar approved by a specialist that it can be forwarded to the mower assembly line. Pöttinger disc mowers are extremely maintenance friendly. All knives feature a quick-change system so they can be replaced rapidly without the need of a socket wrench.
Pöttinger applies the very highest quality standards to the manufacture of agricultural machinery because trouble-free operation and total reliability have top priority.

Pöttinger magic with rear-mounted mowers
Quality made in Grieskirchen/Austria

Pöttinger has some ace mowers up its sleeve: the NOVACAT rear-mounted 402 with a working width of 3.88 m and the 442 with 4.3 m. The central element on these two models is the hydraulic lower linkage arm that guarantees easy mounting without having to adjust the tractor hitch struts.

Quality made in Grieskirchen/Austria

Disc mowers have a long tradition at Pöttinger. The NOVACAT disc mower cutter bars are developed and built in Grieskirchen - a real quality product made in Austria.

Pöttinger has taken user-friendly operation to heart and dramatically improved mounting work with the hydraulic low linkage arm. The tractor hitch struts never need to be adjusted; the new NOVACAT 402 and 442 rear-mounted mowers are matched to the tractor hitch hydraulically from the driver's seat - a unique solution. Using the hydraulic lower linkage arm the headstock can always be brought into the correct horizontal position - independently of the geometry of the tractor hitch.


Perfect mounting

During transport the mower is pivoted through 90 degrees to the rear. The mower unit is pivoted easily and conveniently from the cab using a double-acting cylinder. The mower is ready for action without you leaving the cab - that's what makes mowing fun.
The double-acting cylinder on the rear pivot also serves as collision protection. During mowing the NOVACAT 402 and 442 rear-mounted mowers are raised into the headland position by a single-acting remote valve. The special lift geometry provides excellent ground clearance at the headland (at least 50 cm on the inside). A small additional cylinder secures the mower unit in the headland and transport positions and prevents the mower unit from rocking.

Optimal weight alleviation

Both the new NOVACAT mowers feature hydraulic weight alleviation. The double-acting cylinder provides fine adjustment for weight alleviation. A clearly-visible pressure gauge is fitted to the mower frame and the ground pressure can be simply be adjusted if needed using a double-acting remote valve.

In order to guarantee optimum utilisation of effective working width, both the NOVACAT 402 and 442 can be mounted at two different positions on the boom. Combined with a NOVACAT 351 alpha-motion it is possible to cover a working width of up to 7.4 m.


Easy maintenance

Front-/rear-combination with working width up to 7,4 m

As a result this combination presents a real, cost-effective alternative to a three-unit mower combination. High performance, large area coverage, easy mounting, intelligent weight alleviation and perfect workmanship are the signatures of Pöttinger NOVACAT rear-mounted mowers.
With the NOVACAT 402 and 442 Pöttinger yet again reveals its magic in clever farming.

'extra dry' changed extra fast
From conditioner to swath discs

Under the motto "Helping to make things easier", Pöttinger aims to improve working conditions for its customers. Farmers and contractors are very interested in being able to adapt their mowers to changing operating conditions. For years, Pöttinger has been offering a quick-change system for swapping the conditioner with swath discs within the shortest possible time. This quick-change system is available for all mowers, regardless of whether front-mounted, rear-mounted or trailed mower combinations.

Quick-change
The conditioner can be removed single-handedly in just a few minutes:

  1. Release quick-release pins
  2. Remove drive belts
  3. Attach wheels, pull conditioner out - finished.

If weather conditions and/or crop quality allow the conditioner to be dispensed with, you can now save on fuel consumption by lowering the power requirement of the mower unit.
This quick-change system also makes it quicker and easier to clean the mower. Simply remove the conditioner so that the mower can be cleaned more easily - maintenance has never been more straightforward. With this practical system, Pöttinger makes a considerable contribution to harvesting quality forage.
