Technical highlights

High capacity Pick-up
High loading speeds require a reliable and powerful pick-up. The Pöttinger suspended pickup with eight rows of tines delivers impressive performance – even at high travelling speeds and in all harvest conditions.

Hochleistungs-Pick-up
High capacity Pick-up
The Pöttinger pick-up guarantees maximum performance, even in difficult harvesting conditions such as in damp and short grass.
  • The 2.0-m wide, controlled 8-row pick-up delivers an increase in performance of up to 20%.
  • The collection area from the pick-up tines to the rotor has also been optimised and adapted to the rotor capacity.
  • Maintenance-friendly – cam track only needs to be lubricated once a year; the main bearing on the cam arm every 80 loads – lubrication points are externally mounted.
  • Clean forage thanks to tempered transfer plates that help separate the soil from the forage. This protects the chopping unit.
Only a clean crop can guarantee trouble-free fermentation for high quality silage.
  • The pick-up is controlled from both ends by a cam track made of steel with a solid centre. The sealed twin-groove roller bearings on the cam rollers are designed to withstand high stress.
  • The pick-up tines are swept back to prevent damage to the sward, the throwing up of soil, and unnecessary wear on the tines.
Perfect ground hugging – height-adjustable 16 x 6.5-8 trailed jockey wheels
  • The wheels sweep the ground on the same line as the tines, and guide the pick-up perfectly through each hollow. These wheels are free to castor allowing easy cornering.
  • A height-adjustable windguard with a large diameter swath roller ensures perfect forage flow even when loading is fast and the crop is short and wet.

Pendular hinged pick-up
Pendular hinged pick-up
  • Two hinged support links give the pick-up full mobility.
  • In addition to this, spring suspension ensures low, soil-protecting ground pressure – hydraulic suspension is available as an option.
  • Automatic cut-off of pick-up drive when raised on all JUMBO self loading wagons.

Knife protection
High capacity performance requires equally high triggering pressure. The knives are held individually in the correct position to make sure that a consistent chop length is produced.
What’s special at Pöttinger: The triggering pressure is independent of the size and point of contact of the foreign body.

Knife protection
  • Smaller pieces fall through baffle plates between the pick-up and the rotor.
  • Larger foreign bodies are pushed by the rotor onto the knife and move it briefly in the direction of rotation.
  • The trigger roller is lifted out of its holder at the back of the knife. The knife releases the foreign body. The resistance is minimal, which protects the knife!
  • After the foreign body has passed the chopping unit, the knife springs back to its original position.
The most important benefi t is that stones in the forage are not pulverised into splinters like they are by harvesters. The result is that there is no risk of injury to the digestive tract of livestock.

Ride comfort up to 34 sh t / 31 t total weight
Increasing load volumes and Ride comfort up to 34 sh t / 31 t total weight high transport speeds necessitate robust and soil-protecting chassis. Pöttinger has made great efforts in this area, responding with high quality steering tandem or tridem axles and tyres with large footprints.

  • Maximum ride comfort on and off road. Excellent stability on slopes despite high centre of gravity due to high lateral torsion.
  • Gute Hangtauglichkeit trotz hohem Schwerpunkt durch beste Wankstabilität.
  • Large axle clearance up to 10.63” / 270-mm for demanding tracks and poor road conditions.
  • Optimum braking performance thanks to equal axle load distribution.

8-wheel chassis – perfect soil protection up to 24 sh t / 22 t total weight
On this unique chassis the wheels sit in pairs on the self-aligning axles. The rear axle pairs are equipped with trailed steering, thereby protecting both the wheels and the turf. A hydraulic levelling system with patented pendulum swing action ensures optimum ground pressure distribution. This improves stability on slopes. The hydraulic suspension optimises driving comfort, and pneumatic or hydraulic braking systems ensure a high braking performance even at speed.
Due to the lower platform height in comparison with 26.5” tyres, The discharge end of the rotor is only 3.54” / 90-mm below the scraper floor. This conserves power and increases the flowrate.

Tridem-chassis with hydropneumatic suspension and forced steered axles, up to 34 sh t/ 31 t laden weight.
The Pöttinger tridem chassis distributes high loads across a large area so that the pressure on the ground remains low.
  • Follows tractor tracks on slopes and in the clamp.
  • The axle compensation is a special feature.
  • The hydrop neumatic suspension enables an axle pendulum swing of 10.63” / 270-mm.
  • This allows the axle load to be distributed evenly.
  • The self loading wagon benefits from reduced side forces and runs efficiently – front and rear axles steering.
Tests show that this saves fuel. The axle compensation ensures even wear of brakes on all axles.

Powermatic+ loading rotor

The silage-loading rotor
Powermatic+ is at the heart of Pöttinger self-loading wagons: Powerful, robust and capable. The rotor is suited to virtually unlimited tractor power.

Powermatic+
Perfect transfer of the crop from the pick-up and maximum loading performance even in difficult harvesting conditions (wet and short forage). Rotor tines feature proven advanced geometry that has been field tested over many years.

  • Smooth, energy-saving penetration into crop.
  • Continuous transfer of the crop from the pick-up and highest loading performance thanks to the wide surfaces on the ends of the tines.
  • The optimum gap between the knives and tines ensures smooth operation and protects the knives from foreign objects.
  • The Powermatic+ loading rotor with eight rows of tines arranged in a spiral has a diameter of 800-mm.
  • The theoretical chopped length of the forage is 34-mm; an ideal structure for ruminants.

The loading rotor
The loading rotor is mounted on self-aligning ball bearings at both ends. The drive end stub shaft is 100-mm thick and the bearing is located between the rotor and gearbox to minimise stress on the bearing.
The conveyor tines are made of hardened fi ne-grain Hardox 500 and are 12-mm thick.

Maintenance made easy
The tine rings are clipped into the inner drum. Each ring can be replaced individually.

Scrapers with 0.71” / 18-mm wide backbone
The scrapers are positioned and bolted into place individually. The scrapers are an ideal shape which reduces energy wastage.

Best possible compression
The best possible compression in the loading chamber is achieved thanks to the large scraper surface area and optimised rotor tine geometry. As a result the Pöttinger JUMBO delivers the highest loading performance and load density per cu ft / m3, even with damp crops.

autocut - automatic knife sharpening system

autocut
New „autocut“:
Sharpens blades directly on the self loading wagon
  • The “autocut” blade sharpener allows for convenient blade sharpening directly on the self loading wagon. The sharpening cycle can easily be preselected in accordance with the wear on the knife using the control pad.
  • This considerably reduces maintenance expenses and simultaneously guarantees long lasting optimal cutting quality with lower energy consumption and increased output.

autocut
  • Removing the blades for sharpening, which formerly took place only once a day, thereby impairing the cutting quality, has now come to an end.

  • Intensive use of over 10 to 20 hours per day i nevitably reduces the sharpness of the blades.
  • This inc reases power demands and fuel consumption up to 15%, in stony areas up to 20%.
  • With the new blade sharpening system the sharpness is maintained throughout the entire day – it is simple and fully automatic.
  • This equals up to 15% more output and also up to 15% less diesel fuel consumption thanks to “autocut”.

Easy Move pivoting knife bank
Pöttinger lead the industry by introducing the Easy Move pivoting knife bank back in 1999. This unique pivoting knife bank makes knife changes effortless.

Easy Move pivoting knife bank
Easy Move – You can’t get simpler than this
  • The chopping unit is lowered hydraulically either from the tractor seat or by pressing the button on the left-hand side of the wagon.
  • The whole knife bank can be swung out sideways in the traditional Pöttinger fashion.

Easy Move pivoting knife bank
  • The knives can be automatically released via the central knife release and removed without the need for any tools.
  • The pressure springs and rocker arm for securing individual knives are located in the protected area. This considerably reduces the amount of soil which accumulates in the knife mountings.
  • A cleaning scraper, which automatically cleans spaces between the knives every time the knife bank is lowered, is also available on request.

„Easy Move“ and „autocut” awarded the DLG silver medal :

New 8-row pickup guarantees 20% more performance
The new 8-row pickup with a larger diameter and higher speed guarantees a 20% higher capacity from all JUMBO models. The collection area from the pickup tines to the rotor has also been optimised and adapted to the rotor capacity. Long-term lubrication and low-maintenance tine mounting channel make overall maintenance easier.

Two-way tine control
The pickup is controlled using two cam tracks made from steel with a solid centre. A control cap is integrated into the housing. The control rollers, two-row bearing rollers (diameter of 1.57” / 40 mm), are sturdy and designed for large amounts of forage. The pickup tines are swept back to prevent damage to turf, the throwing up of soil and unnecessary wear on the tines.

Clean forage thanks to tempered transfer plates

Protects the sward by adjusting to the contours of the ground: Two-way heightadjustable castor wheels are in the optimum position for tine contour following. Two hinged support links give the pickup full mobility. In addition to this, spring suspension ensures low, soil-protecting ground pressure – suspension is available as an option. This protects the chopping unit.
Automatic cut-off of pickup drive in D-type trailers – if the pickup is raised, drive is disconnected.
  Perfect!

Perfect ground hugging

The pneumatic castor rear wheels (16 x 6.5-8) are standard. The wheels sweep the ground on the same line as the tines, and guide the pickup perfectly through each hollow. Castor rear wheels enable excellent cornering.

The swath roller encourages forage flow

A height-adjustable windguard with a swath roller ensures perfect forage flow even when loading is fast and the crop is short and wet.

Pickup width:
  • TORRO total width: 1,85 m (1,77 m DIN)
  • JUMBO total width: 2,00 m (1,90 m DIN)

Powermatic Loading system

The structure of the forage greatly determines its digestability. The rotor must be able to compress the forage even with a high flow. Powermatic is at the heart of Pöttinger silage trailers: Powerful, robust and capable. The rotor is suited to unlimited tractor power.
The SILAGE COLLECTOR

  • The Powermatic loading rotor has a diameter of 31.5” / 800 mm and consists of 8 rows of teeth. The teeth are arranged in a helix in order to ensure jolt-free and smooth loading without torque peaks.
  • The feed teeth ensure the continuous collection of the crop and the smooth preliminary pressing of the forage. This makes sure that the silage trailer is completely filled.

  • The Powermatic loading rotor is supported on both sides with self-aligning roller bearings. On the drive side the bearing is positioned between the rotor and the gear – reducing the load on the bearing.
  • Hardened feed teeth
The feed teeth are made of hardened fine-grain boron steel. JUMBO: 0.47” / 12 mm, TORRO: 0.39” / 10 mm thick.
Specially positioned scrapers

scrapers
The scrapers are positioned and bolted into place individually. Placing the scrapers at an ideal distance from the rotor teeth reduces energy expenditure. The scrapers have a large surface area, which prevents the forage from being crushed. Scraper width: JUMBO: 0.71”/18 mm, TORRO: 0.79”/20mm.
JUMBO Rotor gear
The rotor gear is an oversized bevel gear unit. The enclosed gear unit, running in an oil bath, is maintenance free. The drive system uses a floating axle with fine toothing.

Rotor gear
The rotor transmission is mounted outside on the rotor shaft, with the ideal bearing spacing on the rotor (less bending stress).

Inlet gear
The robust bevel gear unit is designed for high tractor power. The inlet gear splits the power flow. One power train leads from the gear unit via a bevel gear running in an oil bath on to the loading rotor and then to the pickup. The second power train leads from the gear unit to the beater rotors.
The connecting shafts are simply plugged in and are therefore easy to dismantle.

  Simple!

Maintenance made easy

The tine rings are clipped into the inner drum. Each ring can be replaced individually.

Reduced energy requirement

Simple but effective – a technical detail on the rotor discharge. The discharge end of the rotor is only 3.54” / 90 mm below the scraper floor. This protects the forage and enables the trouble-free loading of the loading chamber, especially when working in wet conditions. Positive:15% less energy requirement!

Unique cutting unit
A precise and consistent cut is the basis for the best silage quality. The exceptional cutting quality of Pöttinger silage trailers has been confirmed in independent test reports.

This unique-to-the-market swing out knife bank makes light work of changing the knives.

TORRO knife bank

JUMBO knife bank

The chopping unit is lowered hydraulically either from the tractor seat or by pressing the button on the left-hand side of the wagon.
The whole knife bank can be swung out sideways in the traditional Pöttinger fashion.
The knives can be automatically released via the central knife release and removed without the need for any tools.
The pressure springs and rocker arm for securing individual knives are located in the protected area. This considerably reduces the amount of dirt which accumulates in the knife mountings.
A dirt scraper, which automatically cleans spaces between the knives every time the knife bank is lowered, is also available on request.

Knife protection - A reassuring device

Time and cost pressures make machine idle time an expensive business. Foreign bodies are a danger to the most important elements of the machine – the rotor and chopping unit. Pöttinger protects the heart of the silage wagon with an innovative device – patented foreign-body security. Each knife is individually protected.

Schema knife protection
  1. Smaller pieces fall through baffle plates between the pickup and the rotor.
  2. Larger foreign bodies are pushed by the rotor onto the knife and move it briefly in the direction of rotation.
  3. The trigger roll is lifted out of its holder at the back of the knife. The knife releases the foreign body. The resistance is minimal, which protects the knife!
  4. After the foreign body has passed the chopping unit, the knife springs back to its original position.
What’s special at Pöttinger:

The triggering pressure is independent of the size and point of contact of the foreign body.
  Simple!

1. Easy lowering of knife bank by pressing the button on the left-hand side of the trailer

2. Undo the bolting mechanism bolts and pivot the bank out to the side

3. Release the knives using the lever

Razor sharp!

The original with serrated knives

The knives are made of hardened tool-steel and the serration on one side ensures a precise cut even if the knife edge is dulled. The forage is always cut cleanly and not torn apart due to its pull-back chopping action. The knife shape provides a continuous sliding cut.

The new JUMBO knives with extra-strong backs and wide wave cut ensure a prolonged service life.

Detailed information

Unique power train
Drive elements that are used on mountain terrain and with powerful tractors must meet high standards. In the new Pöttinger Test Centre (TIZ) the drive elements are tested according to the most demanding working conditions possible. High torque protection is a special feature of Pöttinger drive technology.

JUMBO transmission scheme

The JUMBO and TORRO silage trailers are driven by a two-way wide angle drive shaft (p.t.o. shaft speed 1000 rpm.). The integrated cam clutch coupling activates immediately if overload occurs. After speed has been reduced, the coupling restores the original power train. The torque protection is an impressive 2100 Nm, which corresponds to a peak performance of almost 299 hp (220 kW).

Inlet gear
The robust bevel gear unit is designed for high tractor power. The inlet gear splits the power flow. Power train A leads from the gear unit via a bevel gear running in an oil bath on to the loading rotor and then to the pickup.
Power train B leads from the gear unit to the beater rotors. The connecting shafts are simply plugged in and are therefore easy to dismantle.

Rotor gear
The rotor gear is an oversized bevel gear unit. The enclosed gear unit, running in an oil bath, is maintenance free. The drive system uses a floating axle with fine toothing. The rotor transmission is mounted outside on the rotor shaft, with the ideal bearing spacing on the rotor (less bending stress). The heavy-duty nodular iron gear unit weighs a robust 352.7 lbs / 160 kg.

Beater rotor gear
The beater rotor drive transmission is protected and on the right-hand side of the trailer. Two sturdy angular gear units and a chain transmit the power to the beater rotors. The drive shaft is secured with a cam clutch coupling with 1200 Nm.

Scraper floor gear
The scraper floor gear for the JUMBO range is located centrally and drives both sides of the scraper floor.

10 good reasons for a silage wagon from Pöttinger

  1. The Pöttinger silage trailer has reached a new dimension in power, transport capacity and cutting quality.
  2. The tractor has developed greatly as regards productivity, multifunctionality and convenience.
  3. The trend towards repeat cropping has caused a lower swath weight => this is ideal for silage trailer procedure.
  4. Pöttinger strategy: Silage with a good structure is easier to digest.
  5. Powerful one-man unit.
  6. Lower investment requirement, less manpower and simpler labour organisation.
  7. Optimum procedural flexibility for different cropping areas, distances between fields and farm, and for mixed silage.
  8. Lower energy requirement and therefore lower diesel consumption for harvesting, for example, 500 hp instead of 800 hp; 1 gallon of diesel per acre / 10 litres of diesel per hectare instead of 1.7 gallons / 16 litres.
  9. Under most working conditions the Pöttinger silage trailer displays excellent cost effectiveness.
  10. Pöttinger silage trailers are ISOBUS-compatible. ISOBUS standardises machine and equipment settings for different processes.

JUMBO: even more safety onboard
With EBS and RSP brake systems on Pöttinger loader wagons

Pöttinger offers even more safety onboard its high-performance JUMBO series loader wagons thanks to a new braking system designed for agricultural applications. Adopted from the truck industry, this proven system (Knorr brakes) provides more stability for loads with a high centre of gravity in combination with higher driving speed.

Electronic Braking System (EBS) with Roll Stability Program (RSP)

Increasing transport capacities and high transport speeds require the use of modern brake components, which in addition to considerably increasing safety at the same time help to reduce operating costs due to worn brake pads and tyres.
The Roll Stability Program (RSP) delivers more stability and reduces tilt angles during steering and avoidance manoeuvres on tight corners and at high speeds:
The RSP function brakes specific wheels on the trailer automatically if there is a risk of rolling to attain the most stabile driving position.

Special features of this technology
  • The complete control unit plus sensors are integrated into a compact unit that converts the load signals from the hydro-pneumatic suspension into an electronic signal.
  • Large voltage range from 8 to 32 V can be used on all vehicles.
  • Additional safety thanks to brake light power supply from the ABS connector if power is interrupted so that the electronic load detection and the ABS system remain functional (not the RSP system, however).
  • Spring-loaded brake with parking and handling valve is included as standard on chassis with EBS and RSP braking systems.

Wagons with the EBS braking module can be drawn by vehicles with ABS or EBS and vehicles with conventional braking systems. However, the system needs to be connected to an ISO7638 (ABS) socket on the vehicle for permanent power supply and operation of the warning system on the TEBS G2.1.

The advantages of this intelligent braking system are clear:
  • Enhanced braking safety with EBS.
  • Integrated Roll Stability Program (RSP).
  • More precise and uniform regulation of braking pressure.
  • Reduced tyre wear.

Harvesting successfull: with these new driving safety developments in the loader wagon sector the world leader yet again proves its pioneering role as the No. 1 worldwide.

Central lubrication system for JUMBO
Professional lube system - reliable and economical

Pöttinger offers a compact and professional central lubrication system for its high-performance JUMBO and JUMBO combiline. In cooperation with Kreuzhuber a retrofit solution has been developed for hydro-pneumatic Tandem and Tridem chassis.
A total of 30 lubrication points on tandem axles and 50 lubrication points on tridem axles are grouped together on each axle at a progressive lubrication distributor which is supplied through a lube line routed out to an accessible position on the lower edge of the wagon beam.

Cost saving factors

In practice each lube nipple takes around 1 minute.
Customer benefits and performance features Taking a Tridem chassis with 50 lubrication points as an example, the time taken is reduced by 45 min. If the vehicle is lubricated once per week and approx. 10 weeks per year, depending on operating time, this adds up to a saving in maintenance time of around 8 hours per year. This advantage has a positive effect on utilization as well.

Customer benefits and performance features:
  • Up to 50 lube points supplied centrally.
  • Greatly reduced maintenance requirement.
  • Extended service life thanks to more frequent and reliable supply to lube points.

More and more JUMBOs with autocut
Report from an enthusiastic expert in Slovakia

The Slovakian specialist farm machinery magazine MM Press, s. r. o. held a competition last year for "The most innovative machine of the year 2010". One of the entries was a JUMBO silage wagon, which went on to win. The winning silage wagon belonged to Boris Hrdlicka, the managing director of Agrodružstvo Senné, in the Veľký Krtíš region of Slovakia. The wagon is a JUMBO 10010 L with the autocut knife sharpening system.

Boris Hrdlicka reports on his extremely positive experiences with the high capacity JUMBO loader wagon: „We have been handling our silage with the JUMBO 7200 L from Pöttinger since 2005. We are extremely satisfied with both the silage process and the chop quality. In 2011 we purchased the JUMBO 10010 L with the automatic knife sharpening system 'autocut'. We can confirm that this is represents a revolution in silage making with the loader wagon. The chop quality has been improved considerably thanks to autocut. Another advantage is that sharpening times are much shorter because you don't have to remove and refit the knives. The lower power requirement has reduced fuel consumption by around 0.75 l/ha. The whole knife sharpening process only lasts four minutes, which is of no significance Next time we buy a silage wagon then it will definitely be a JUMBO with the autocut knife sharpening system. We can really recommend this machine.“

Tyrolean contractor hitches loader wagon to purple tractor

A new loader wagon, the JUMBO 6010 combiline, was recently handed over to its new owner at the works in Grieskirchen, Austria. Florian Pittl, Junior Manager of Pittl contract company based in Igls in Tyrol (AT) turned up with a colleague. The Pöttinger team were more than surprised to see his purple tractor arrive at the factory to pick up his new giant JUMBO. "We own a total of six tractors painted purple", explained Florian Pittl. This "trademark" is designed to differentiate the contractor from the rest of the market in the same way as high performance machinery from Pöttinger does.

Pittl contractors operate a 10-hectare farm. Four hectares are used to grow maize. As an agricultural contractor the company specialises in mowing, tedding, raking and arable, among other services. Snow clearing is also part of their portfolio, thanks to the heavy snow in Tyrol. As a long-term, satisfied customer, the company has a whole range of Pöttinger equipment: a SERVO 45 Plus plough and for grassland operations a NOVACAT alpha-motion front mower, a HIT 69 tedder, a TOP 771 double-rotor rake and now, with their latest purchase, a JUMBO 6010 combiline. "We drove a TORRO 5100 for many years. Of course we would now only consider a Pöttinger loader wagon because we were always highly satisfied with its performance", reports Florian Pittl, who went on to say, "The Pöttinger machines all produce excellent results and are very easy to operate. For us it is also a huge advantage that spare parts are always available promptly - usually the next day."

All tractors at Pittl are purple, a colour that also dominates their homepage. More information on this successful contractor is available (in German) at http://www.lohn-pittl.at/

Pöttinger film crew shoots 4 JUMBOs
Filming in the field in northern Germany

At the end of May the Pöttinger film crew went to northern Germany for three days. They were located near the Baltic coast to film new loader wagons in action: the new JUMBO 10010 L combilines were sighted in 60-hectare fields near Schwerin. Sophie Berger (Pöttinger intern) checks in with her impressions:

"On day one everything went smoothly. After around 9 hours on the road we visited the farm, inspected the fields and checked out the surrounding area. The agricultural contractor Hamester in Mühlen Eichsen (DE) made available to us some of his drivers with tractors and wagons. We were able to shoot the JUMBOs in action on some large fields in Gut Mirow am Moosberg.

On day two in the morning the weather was very windy and rather chilly, but the sun then came out as soon as we started taking photos and filming. The JUMBOs took off from the start. To get detailed action shots we had to drive alongside the loader wagon in the open back of a 4WD pickup truck. We were pleased with the formation shots where we set up a camera boom and got the four wagons to drive into the picture one after the other. That's how we managed to perfectly capture three JUMBO 10010 L combilines and a JUMBO 7200 D combiline. And as you can see, these combined silage and harvest transport wagons look good both in the field and unloading in the clamp."

New discharge system
on short-chop D-type loader wagons with beaters

In today's article we are going to present the technical innovations for unloading with beaters and the contribution the loader wagon can make to optimum compression.

A compact, uniformly distributed blanket of forage is essential for perfect compression in the clamp. This has a considerable influence on fermentation processes and storage stability because less oxygen can penetrate if the blanket of forage is immediately compressed by roller. The shorter the filling time inside the clamp the more favourable the fermentation quality of the grass silage develops. That, as well as a high rolling pressure and effective clamp closure, can have major benefits on the storage density and fermentation quality of the material.

The higher the harvesting performance the more critical the unloading technology and logistics at the clamp. If the rolling vehicle takes too long to distribute the material in the clamp then the tighter the time window between unloading cycles for the loader wagon. This means that the required compression density may not always be achieved.

The automatic discharge system on loader wagons with beaters protects the machine and makes life easier for the driver.

During unloading a pressure sensor on the beater bearings registers the pressure exerted on it during unloading. As soon as the limit is exceeded, the scraper floor switches off. The scraper floor switches back on again as soon as pressure on the beater roller is reduced. This ensures smoother unloading and takes the pressure off the driver.

The trademark feature of the new, large beaters is the shape of the aggressive rollers (twist shape), which deliver increased unloading performance (up to 20 % higher).

3 beater rotor gear

Overload protection on the rollers (1500 Nm on JUMBO and 1200 Nm on FARO / TORRO) produces 20 % faster unloading.

Intelligent controls make driving a tractor/loader wagon combo more fun

Another technical highlight is the new POWER CONTROL with raised backlit keys. This makes working in the dark a great deal easier.

Pöttinger JUMBO silage wagon
"Most Innovative Machine 2010" in Slovakia

The publishing house MM Press s.r.o. produces a range of agricultural magazines in Czech Republic and Slovakia, titles such as Moderná mechanizácia, Agromagazín etc. In 2010 they hosted a competition to find the Most Innovative Machine of the Year 2010. Ten different machines were submitted to the competition. The Pöttinger JUMBO silage wagon was one of them. Votes could be placed by readers of all the magazines.

The results of the votes were revealed during the Agrosalon trade show in Nitra, which took place between 30 March and 2 April 2011.
The most votes went to the Pöttinger JUMBO silage wagon. As a result the multiple award-winning loader wagon can also proudly bear the logo "Most Innovative Machine 2010" in Slovakia.

The JUMBO loader wagon has already taken a number of awards: a DLG Silver medal and "Machine of the Year" at AGRITECHNICA 2009, the Gold Agrarfuchs at Agraria in Wels / Austria 2010 and three stars - the highest award you can get - at the Danish trade show Agromek, to name just a few.

Loader wagons take a swim in New Zealand?
JUMBO on a detour to harvest job

These kind of operating conditions in New Zealand are the ultimate test for any machine. Tobias Eichinger, our new Customer Services specialist, got some hand-on experience from December to February 2011. Tobias Eichinger paid a visit to the contractor Gary Graham in Greymouth on the west coast of New Zealand's south island and reports back with his findings:

When the weather turned nasty we helped Gary Graham out on his farm: we checked and repaired fencing out on the meadow and helped out milking the 1100 cows. Gary Graham reckons he'll call on Pöttinger machinery and Austrian drivers in future because we felt so at home." wrote our new Pöttinger Customer Services specialist in his trip report from New Zealand.

JUMBO with the latest technology
Weighing system with management software for more information

The Pöttinger JUMBO, a high performance rotor loader wagon with ISOBUS control system, is now equipped with an electronic weighing system. The ISOBUS terminal displays how much crop has already been loaded into the wagon. The weighing data is not only useful for the driver; it can also be saved job-by-job for invoicing customers. The software allows you to save up to seven customer jobs at once.

Loading display for the driver's information

The weighing process
Pöttinger weighing system management software and data processing is an intelligent product: in addition to the number of hours worked and number of loads delivered you can now display the weight, the loading time, road transport time, waiting time and unloading time.
The weighing process takes place with the wagon stationary on a level surface. The tractor plus wagon have their brakes released. The hinged drawbar moves automatically into weighing position. The weighing process is accurate to +/- 2.5 % of the total weight.

The accuracy of the weighing process is increased if the system is calibrated before and after the first load:

Data transfer and processing
Customer jobs saved at the terminal can be transferred to a USB stick for further processing on the office computer. The data can then be evaluated using the new management software. The parameters can be applied to job-specific hourly rates to produce an overall invoice for each customer. For example, you can apply different rates to road transport time as for loading time. This allows you to optimise customer jobs regarding costs, efficiency and productivity.

This new software for loader wagon job evaluation enables you to give your customers a comprehensive breakdown of costs for each job and a precise invoice.

With this new product Pöttinger again proves its power for innovation by fulfilling the requirements of farmers, large farming operations and contractors. Success speaks for itself: Pöttinger loader wagons are number 1 worldwide.

All good things come in threes
German contractor goes for three JUMBOs
Markus Bengsch, an agricultural and forestry contractor in Rotenburg a. d. Fulde in Hessen (GER) now has the full trio: he is the proud owner of three Pöttinger JUMBO 6610 loader wagons. Quality, service and performance have convinced him.

In November 2010 Bengsch and his drivers as well as employees from the agricultural machinery dealership Klaus Kollmann in Sontra (GER) visited the Pöttinger headquarters in Austria. The contractor wanted to visit the "birthplace" of his three huge babies, all JUMBO 6610s. Here he was able to get a clear impression of how the production process works and the advanced level of manufacturing.

The successful contractor has been relying on one Pöttinger machine since 2009. The four-rotor TOP 1252 rake has been working perfectly for him. With the Top 1252 C Pöttinger offers a 4-rotor rake in the highest professional class. Perfect ground tracking and careful crop handling guarantee quality forage and outstanding productivity in the stall.

Bengsch bought all his Pöttinger kit from Klaus Kollmann in Sontra, a specialist dealer offering comprehensive service.

The enterprising contractor appreciates Pöttinger for their exceptional customer friendliness: "We received a very warm welcome on our visit to the Pöttinger factory. The interesting plant tour gave us a very good impression." He is extremely satisfied with his machines, of course, and says "the rake and the loader wagons produce excellent work. My drivers confirm this. Manufacturing quality, service and customer service are also very important to me and Pöttinger and Kollmann are excellent in this respect."

JUMBO parade in Czech Republic
Managing Director of Agrospol Mladá Vožice reports

Agrospol Mladá Vožice a. s. Co. Ltd. is involved exclusively in primary agricultural production. The association has 3,500 ha of which 3,200 ha are fields at a height above sea level of between 420 and 640 m. 1,200 to 1.300 ha is used for winter wheat, 700 to 800 ha is for rapeseed, 200 to 300 ha for summer barley, plus rye, winter barley, forage plants such as maize and clover as well as smaller quantities of potatoes. Crop production accounts for 70 percent of total sales. Dairy production involves 350 cows with an average annual yield of 9,000 kg.

Agrospol have been using Pöttinger loader wagons since 2000. The oldest wagon is the JUMBO 6600 L used together with a 200 hp tractor. They have had an additional JUMBO 8000 L in operation since 2005 and purchased the JUMBO 10000 L two years ago to work with a 360 hp tractor. The furthest transport distance for silage on this farm is no more than one kilometre. The wagons can now transport large loads at high-speed, reducing the unproductive time while the forage was transported away to the trough. For straw the furthest transport distance is three kilometres.

„The Pöttinger loader wagons are the best machines we know of this kind. Because these machines operate reliably and trouble-free, you don't need any spare parts. Each model from this manufacturer is even better with higher performance, new technical improvements and is capable of transporting even heavier loads. We handle 2,500 hectares of silage and straw on our farm with these wagons alone“, says František Dobeš, Managing Director of Agrospol Mladá Vožice Agricultural Co. Ltd. in Tábor.

František Dobeš, Managing Director of Agrospol Mladá Vožice, a. s., is extremely satisfied with the loader wagon.

This JUMBO 8000 will be operating its seventh season this year. The original chopping mechanism is still in very good condition.

JUMBO picks up in California
Pöttinger goes USA

California is the state with the highest population of dairy cows and as a result has the largest milk production of any state in the USA. Starting in the Bakersfield area around 100 km north of Los Angeles on the route to San Francisco there is one large dairy farm after another. Dairy farms with between 5,000 and 10,000 cows, mainly kept out in the open, are a common sight here while your nose clearly detects the once so famous "smell of money". Agriculture has been through a bitter crisis in the last two years with extremely low milk prices, horrendous daily losses and incentive programs to get out of dairy farming. However, the wind has changed direction and the worst trough is over, with an upswing clearly detectable.

The World Ag Expo, the largest open-air show in the USA, which opened its gates on 08 – 10 February 2011, provided an excellent platform for Pöttinger. Together with the dealership "McCann & Sons" plus Same-Deutz Fahr North America, an exhibition stand was organised in Tulare almost 300 km north of Los Angeles. The JUMBO 8010 L as well as the NOVACAT X8 ED collector were among the highlights at the show. That's mainly because the loader wagon and mower combos are relatively unknown as harvest systems in these parts. Surprising, since the JUMBO is the ideal piece of kit for everyday forage duties and in California vegetation is available virtually all year round. That's why more and more customers want to profit from the convincing advantages of the loader wagon for whole-plant silage and hay production.

An impressive 'double-pack' for California: Novacat X8 Collector und Jumbo 8010L

An impressive 'double-pack' for California: Novacat X8 Collector und Jumbo 8010L

The NOVACAT X8 ED collector stands out by more than doubling the area covered per day. That means halving the diesel consumption per hectare compared to conventional mowing systems such as self-propelled windrowers and mowers with working widths between 4 and 5.5 metres (14’-18’). And that is quite apart from the optimization of personnel deployment. The unique, completely independent Collector conveyor belts provide the flexibility necessary for various applications such as grass forage harvesting, whole plant silage and hay production.

In addition to a lively public who showed great interest in our stand, we provided demonstrations and training with the powerful Pöttinger "double-pack" to round off an extremely successful week for a great start to the 2011 season. Take a look for yourself on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/poettingeramericas) at the tidy and speedy work delivered by the Pöttinger kit on the Californian plains. The wintered, slightly brown Lucerne has had a bit of a rough time with the low temperatures during the night - it is after all the beginning of February!
