Technical highlights

Floating pick-up
High loading speeds require a reliable and powerful pick-up. Only a clean crop can guarantee trouble-free fermentation for high energy-content silage. That is what the Pöttinger floating pick-up is designed for.
  • The wide pick-up delivers incredible performance even with heavy and irregular swaths. There is less stress on the driver.
  • Pick-up widths: FARO, EUROPROFI: 1.85 m
  • Six rows of tines and a tine spacing of 55 mm - every stem is picked up reliably even at high travelling speeds.
  • The pick-up tines are bolted onto heavy gauge tubes. Heavy-duty "Super C"-quality tines have a longer service life.
The Pöttinger secret:
A newly-developed pick-up suspension system with heavy-duty floating frame.
  • Two hinged support links at either end provide excellent ground hugging. This pick-up adjusts both horizontally and vertically to the ground contours. Nothing is left behind: the turf remains undamaged and no dirt is picked up.
  • The fine-tuned counter-springs absorb any shocks and prevent the pick-up from sinking in on damp ground.
  • The height-adjustable rubber tyred wheels contact the ground on exactly the same line as the tines and guide the pick-up perfectly through each hollow.
  • Steered jockey wheels enable the pick-up to corner with even less damage - standard equipment on the EUROPROFI, optional for the FARO.
Swath roller
The height adjustable swath guide plate combined with a swath roller make sure you get perfect crop flow even at high speed and with short, wet crop. Standard equipment for EUROPROFI:
  Pick-up!

Tempered transfer plates

Between the pick-up and the rotor the crop passes over transfer plates. Here, any foreign objects (such as stones) are able to fall through, away from the crop. This system is only available from Pöttinger. Both the rotor and the knives are protected.

Side inspection port

for quick check of rollers and cam track.

The pick-up tine control rollers
are made from dual deep-groove bearings and are designed for really punishing conditions.

JUMBO pick-up transmission

A heavy-duty bevel gear transmission submerged in oil ensures the pick-up runs smoothly in extreme operating conditions.

A selection of axles and tyres

Increasing load volumes and transport speeds necessitate robust and soil-protecting chassis. Pöttinger has made great efforts in this area. They have responded with tyres with large footprints, tridem axles and a unique 8-wheel chassis.

Tandem axle with parabolic suspension
Parabolic suspension with large spring-to-axle spacing and compensator for height regulation. Ideal suspension hopping properties at the silo and smooth running in fields and on the road. Stable trailing linkages apply the braking and steering force. An advantage of parabolic suspension with a large spring-to-axle spacing is better handling control on slopes.

Large
spring-to-axle spacing

Pneumatic brakes
The 4-wheel pneumatic brake system with automatic load-dependent braking system (ALB) controls ensures safe braking at high speed and with heavy loads. Can also be fitted with ABS if required.

Hydraulic braking
Hydraulic brakes can be supplied for some countries.

Jockey steering axle

Axle unit for protecting the turf and reducing the power requirement for cornering. When reversing or driving at speed, the steering axle can be locked into place using a separate hydraulic fitting. A system that protects the tyres.

Tyres

Pöttinger offers you a large selection of tyres to suit your requirements.

    Drawbar
    • Hydraulic drawbar with 2 double-acting cylinders and parking stand
Pick-up – Dynamic separation of forage and dirt
    • Perfect sward protection thanks to excellent ground hugging with suspended Pick-up and height-adjustable jockey wheels at both ends
    • Optimum filtering of foreign objects – transfer plates between the Pick-up and loading system allow dirt and stones to fall through
    • Six tine carriers controlled by two solid-centre steel cam tracks
    • The cam rollers with twin deep-grooved ball bearings are heavy-duty designed for high quantities of forage
ROTOMATIC – The FARO loading system – powerful and robust for high performance
    • Loading rotor (diameter 750 mm) with seven rows of tines arranged in a spiral – for smooth, uniform loading performance
    • The hardened conveyor tines ensure continuous crop flow and uniform compression of the forage so that the loading chamber is filled at a consistent rate
    • Scrapers with special configuration: scrapers are fitted and secured individually. The optimised position in relation to the rotor tines reduces energy consumption
    • Automatic chain lubrication for loading system and Pick-up
Chopping system – Short chop for high performance feeding
    • Hardened tool steel knives with serrated edges ensure a clean cut, even when knives are worn
    • 54 tine rings feed the crop on both sides of the 27 knives – precise cut of 51 mm
    • Knife security system: constant triggering pressure, regardless of where a foreign object makes contact
    • „Easy Move“ knife bank pivoting system: knife bank can be swung out alongside the wagon – there is no easier way to change the knives

    Recipe for success: controlled pick-up
Best forage quality thanks to careful crop handling

Pöttinger in Grieskirchen/Austria have been building loader wagons since 1963. As a result the company can look back on almost 50 years experience in building loader wagons. A controlled pick-up has been fitted to all loader wagons right from the very beginning. As the pioneer in this technology, we developed this system to ensure perfect operation in all conditions and clean and careful handling of the forage.

In recent years several manufacturers have been offering systems with uncontrolled/fixed rotor pick-ups. This compromise is still regarded as controversial among farmers, and for good reason.

The advantages of the Pöttinger controlled pick-up are impressive and plain to see.

The rollers on the tine row control levers run in a defined cam track. The cam track controls the position of each row of tines during the following phases:

    • Picking-up
    • Transferring
    • Extracting tine from crop.

The tines on the Pöttinger pick-up are slanted forwards at the tip. This makes the tines act like a „pitch fork“, lifting the crop carefully away from the sward.
At the same time the relatively low speed of the pick-up is decisive for clean forage. Plus, the perfect transfer of the crop to the loading rotor ensures optimum chopping quality.

If the tines do contact the ground, the controlled pick-up has clear advantages in terms of forage cleanliness. This is clearly demonstrated by the following facts:

    • Low pick-up speed
    • More elastic tines
    • Tines angled forwards (pitch-fork effect)

which enable the pick-up to be positioned higher so that less contamination enters the flow of crop. Thanks to the angle of the tine points there are no losses during raking.
The forage is also picked up more carefully. This leads to lower losses and no crop is flung out to the side while cornering.

    The uncontrolled system

The uncontrolled pick-up does not have a cam track and the tines are rigidly secured to the pick-up drum. This presents a high risk of forage being drawn through the transfer plates because the tines are not extracted from the crop at the right angle. A number of optimisation steps have been introduced in the past on uncontrolled systems to prevent the crop being drawn in.

    Change Negative effect
Step-by-step speed increase up to + 80% More losses, lower chop quality, higher load on tines and drive system
Scraper shape Active tine length reduced
Change in tine angle Fender shape → worse at lifting and conveying
Tine rigidness increased Many tine breakages, cultivator effect
Tine angle From lifting to pushing away → Pick-up has to be positioned lower

These changes have clearly brought about a reduction in function and quality. When tines touch the ground then 4 – 6 times as much contamination enters the flow of forage.

    Conclusion:

The controlled pick-up is a key feature for ensuring the trouble-free operation of the loader wagon.

    • Operates smoothly and tidily in all operating conditions
    • Keeps forage clean
    • Improves chopping quality

To load crop cleanly and carefully in all operating conditions from spring to late autumn it is essential to invest in a Pöttinger controlled pick-up system. After all, top quality forage is the basis for high-yield and healthy animals.
