Pöttinger optimises whole plant silage harvesting

With these new roller-type conditioners, Pöttinger offers the optimum process for mowing clovers, whole plant silage and other high-yield energy plants.

Pöttinger supports contractors and large farming operations with efficient machines and intelligent technology. The new roller-type conditioners can perfectly mow and harvest whole-crop silage, forage sorghum, lucerne and clover mixes.

Pöttinger has continuously developed the roller-type conditioner and is the only manufacturer to offer a mower combination with roller conditioner and cross-conveyor belts to place the swaths in a single blanket. The NOVACAT X8 RC collector mows whole plant silage effortlessly and can then be folded away with the cross-conveyor belts. The mower combination has a working width of 8.3 m and is equipped with cross-conveyor belts as standard equipment. These enable flexible utilization of the mower combination in different operating conditions and working situations.

The new conditioner with its large hood can now process huge quantities of crop in a single pass. The rollers feature a profile that is ideal for handling plants carefully yet with sufficient pressure. The Polyurethane profile of the rollers ensures perfect crop flow and draws the forage rapidly away from the cutter bar. This system ensures that the conditioner cannot become clogged. An accelerator roller is located behind the two conditioning rollers to feed the forage onto the cross-conveyor belt. The crop is drawn away quickly thanks to the large clearance between the conditioner and cross-conveyor belt. Perfect crop flow without losses on the cross-conveyor belt and perfect swath formation are guaranteed. The swath can then be easily processed by harvesting equipment in the next pass. Highest efficiency and performance are guaranteed as a result.

The two cross-conveyor belts can also be raised individually. This means that a combination of swath and wide placement can be achieved. One cross-conveyor transports the forage between the swath of the front mower and the other side mower. Around 3.5 to 4 m of the crop is then cleared. This configuration brings together the crop from the mowers working across more than 16 m to be placed in a swath blanket around 9 m wide. The forage can be allowed to dry in the field and yet raking work is reduced by 40%. The two conveyor belts can simply be lowered hydraulically into the working position again by pressing a button on the Power Control terminal. The forage is then fed from both sides into a large central swath.

The roller conditioner is packed with numerous technical details. During development of the roller conditioner, Pöttinger placed special emphasis on durability, stability and easy servicing.
The rugged central tube has a diameter of 140 mm and a wall thickness of 5.6 mm to ensure highest possible stability and durability.

The Polyurethane roller profile with an outside diameter of 200 mm is vulcanised onto the central tube, producing a perfect bond between the synthetic material and the tube. High stability, low abrasion, a long service life and less sensitivity towards foreign objects are just some of the many advantages. Twisting of the segments is also eliminated.

The pressure on the upper roller can easily be adjusted using a spring setting to ensure ideal conditioning in all operating conditions. The drive drums are bolted-on and can therefore easily be replaced if required. A chain lubrication system equipped with an oil pump simplifies maintenance on the conditioner and extends service life while increasing reliability. The chain lubrication system is activated each time the unit is lifted at headland turns.
