Power in Action
Hyde Parker Farms, Long Melford, Suffolk., Wednesday 9th September 2009.
Held every two years Power in Action this year celebrated its 30th anniversary and has seen this local tillage demonstration event become more of a regional event since it began in 1979. Despite some parts of the UK suffering record rainfall levels in the past few weeks this part of Eastern England has really seen no rain for many weeks now and this was certainly evident judging by the hard ground conditions at this year’s event. The host farm this year was Hyde Parker Farms at Long Melford whom have just taken delivery of a brand new Pottinger TERRASEM C6 seed drill and we were pleased to have this on display on our plot throughout the duration of the event.
| The site encompassed 120 acres in all with 45 exhibitors in attendance there was just about every European manufacturer of Tillage equipment in attendance or at least that’s how it seemed! On the Pottinger stand we were working in conjunction with our local dealer Mark Weatherhead Ltd whom equipped us with Massey Ferguson tractors to work the three machines being demonstrated. This was the first year Pottinger had attended and we were pleased to be positioned on a plot right next to the entrance and main road. |

The machine line up from Pottinger on the day consisted of TERRASEM 4000T profiline trailed seed drill, SERVO 45S 5 F mounted plough and a 3mtr SYNKRO 3003 tined cultivator. All did a fantastic job in these heavy clay loam soil conditions the TERRASEM in particular drew many spectators as it effortlessly switched between working in stubble and directly on top of the ploughed soil, guided completely by the Massey Ferguson Autoguide GPS system.
But the star of the day was the SYNKRO 3003 which was performing well working at a depth of 12 – 15 cm, visitors were impressed with the mixing ability of the SYNKRO and the fact that equipped with 11 legs all the soil across its 3 mtr working width was completely moved leaving no un-worked ridges. This was something that impressed a group of visiting agronomists’ they commented how essential this was to maintaining a good soil structure year on year. They went onto comment further that it was all the more impressive for the fact that the SYNKRO 3003 was simple, affordable and effective especially when comparing it to some of the more expensive larger competitive trailed machines that were being demonstrated.
With a constant flow of visitors from all over Eastern England we were kept busy talking and demonstrating throughout the day right until the event closed, with several further on farm demonstrations confirmed for Pottinger tillage machinery.
