Pöttinger at Warragul Field Days, Australia
The Warragul Field Days took place between 3 and 6 April 2008 in Warragul near Melbourne
This area near Melbourne is mainly settled with dairy farming businesses, so Pöttinger is well represented here with their grassland product range. The Terradisc compact disc harrower is also gaining in popularity, since it provides a favourable alternative to ploughing in maize stubble after the harvest.
Before the machines can be presented at the trade fair they have to be removed from the container and assembled. Assembling a loader wagon for example, in this case a Torro, takes two days with two people working on it.
We received many interested visitors at the trade fair, who were particularly interested in mowers, twin-rotor rakes and self-loading wagons.
There are two reasons why loader wagons are being used more and more in this region.
On the one hand the price of diesel continues to rise. Back in Europe we would still be happy with the lower prices in Australia (1 litre of diesel costs approx. 0.9 €). At the same time the loader wagon process for silage harvesting is really interesting in comparison to using self-propelled harvesters because the thirsty harvesters and transport convoy can be replaced by one or two loader wagons, generating a cash-in-hand saving.
In addition, the loader wagon is increasingly being used in combination with an alpha-motion mower to bring in the daily forage. Here, the loader wagon is equipped with discharging beaters and cross-conveyor belt for easy feeding inside the cattle shed. And it's not just small wagons that come into play; the majority are Torros and Jumbos.
