Stimulating potential – promoting innovation
The continuous improvement process at Pöttinger
The potential in ideas from employees at the Pöttinger plant in Grieskirchen, Upper Austria, is boosted using the Pöttinger Improvement Process. Since 1997 our staff have been able to input and realise their suggestions for improvement in the company. "Achieving innovation it is not about implementing revolutionary ideas - it is about acknowledging numerous little suggestions" is how Managing Directors Heinz and Klaus Pöttinger explain the improvement process. The incredible power of these little suggestions has achieved enormous success at Pöttinger.
During its annual meeting in Linz, the ÖPWZ (Austrian productivity and economy centre) praised Pöttinger for its innovative strength: Pöttinger was rated number 3 among the best ten companies in Austria. In the categories "Number of individual suggestions received" and "Number of group suggestions received" Pöttinger employees managed to reach the number one slot. Silvio Emmer received the prize for submitting 99 suggestions for improvement and a group of dedicated employees working with Karl Buchbauer and Adolf Rumersdorfer submitted 50 creative ideas, all of which contributed to considerable improvements being made.
Pitted against international competition, Pöttinger employees still head the field in creativity: an idea management study assessing more than 350 well-known companies in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Slovenia places Pöttinger in the top 10.
The subsequent success at Pöttinger is impressive: three out of four employees participate in the improvement process and 85% of suggestions are implemented. The financial benefit of all internal improvement projects added together results in an average benefit of € 3,500.- per employee per year. Pöttinger-style knowledge management – a successful system in place for the future.
