Heinz Pöttinger Senior awarded
Pöttinger Senior Managing Director receives award for his life
Kommerzialrat Heinz Pöttinger, Senior Managing Director and Chairman of the Pöttinger board of directors, has been awarded the Crystal Pegasus 2007 for his life's work. Upper Austria's top business award, hosted by the OÖNachrichten newspaper, was presented to the 82-year-old Senior Managing Director during a ceremony at the Brucknerhaus concert hall in Linz. On receiving the award Heinz Pöttinger remarked:
| „My success has only been possible because I managed to find excellent employees to accompany me along the way. And the company is again staffed by a team with whom I have no doubt that a successful future is in store.“ Heinz Pöttinger Senior started an apprenticeship in 1938 at his father's company - Alois Pöttinger - which he completed as a master of agricultural engineering and installation. In the third generation since the founding of the company in 1871 by his grandfather Franz Pöttinger, Heinz Pöttinger Senior took over management of the company in 1956 together with his brothers Alois and Hans. Three years later they finalised plans for a new factory that was designed for expanding the workforce up to 1,200 employees. In 1963 Pöttinger launched the self-loading wagon onto the market, setting a clear course for the future of forage harvesting. Today, the company is the world leader in this product segment. |

The family-owned company still profits today from the Senior Managing Director's prudent and far-sighted thinking. With the acquisition of the Landsberg plough factory in 1975, Pöttinger Senior also laid a decisive cornerstone for the success the company enjoys today. Until that point Pöttinger had specialised in the grassland sector. Obtaining the plough factory enabled the company to build up its second branch of business, tillage - a significant success factor in gaining access to many international markets. The international dimension to the company's success is reflected in their success today: with a total turnover of EUR 171.1 million, Pöttinger has an export quota of 83 per cent.
In 1991 the Senior Managing Director handed over the running of the company to the fourth generation - Heinz and Klaus Pöttinger. He has never leant back since then, however, and still comes into the office every day. He continues to pursue creative interests, painting acrylics and watercolours, listening to operas by Verdi and Puccini and enjoying an active time with the family. The grand seigneur is by no means taking it easy.
Heinz Pöttinger Senior – an entrepreneur with foresight, heart and vision not only inspires the Pöttinger firm through his activities, but has also made a significant mark on agricultural technology itself.
