Pöttinger Bucks the Trend and Rides High In Local
Sponsorship
Goomeri is a small farming community of about 1000 inhabitance in the South Burnet region of Queensland Australia. Situated approximately three hours driving north east of Brisbane, the area used to feature a thriving dairy industry but changes in climate and government policies has transformed Goomeri into an important fodder producing district growing mainly Lucerne and forage sorghum. Pöttinger was first introduced into the South Burnett areas just two years ago by South Burnett Machinery of Murgon, about 20 kilometers from Goomeri, and in that time Pöttinger has become market leader in rakes and linkage mower conditioners. The residence of this proud little town are always looking for ways to better their community and one of the local organization, the Goomeri Show Society has for the last 5 years have conducted the “Goomerie New Years Eve Bull and Bronk Rodeo”.
This event runs all day and attracts over 3000 spectators from central and South East Queensland with over 50 competitors from all over eastern Australia. The proceeds from the rodeo are ploughed back into the Show Society facilities in Goomeri to improve future activities. The rodeo include nearly all the traditional events one would expect, bull riding, the bronk ride, steer riding and wrestling, barrel racing, roping, bull dogging and a calf ride for the future cowboys and girls.
With Pöttinger’s strong emphasis on partnership both South Burnett Machinery and Pöttinger decided to sponsor the major event of the night, the Bronk Ride. Both parties felt this was a perfect opportunity to raise Pöttinger’s profile even further and say thank you to a community and surrounding districts for the tremendous support that they have given us.
The bronk ride consists of two disciplines, the saddle buck jump and the challenging bare back buck jump. The saddle buck jump requires the competitor to ride a saddled bucking horse for 12 seconds. The bare back buck jump is very similar but as the name implies in this event the rider has no saddle, just a girth strap which he must hold with one hand only. The other hand he must hold above his head. Both events take allot of courage and skill and each 12 seconds are the longest 12 seconds one will ever experience.
The evening ended at midnight, seeing the New Year in with a stunning fire works display and allowed all to forget, for a short while, the severe drought that has gripped most of eastern Australia for more than 6 years.
