Arable soil on top form

Everybody is getting into gear for spring

Everybody is getting into gear for spring. Rotation crops are on the increase. The utilization of seed drills is on the rise and the specifications of the technology is no longer comparable with drill kit used in the past. A reduction in seed density requires precision seed grain placement. Waiting for the right weather, many farmers are ready to make the most of perfect drilling conditions. A trend has been unearthed over the years: compaction in front of the seed coulter is a sensitive issue, especially in spring, and is responsible for poor plant growth in many areas, especially during the early stages.

Why?
Differing ground structures and/or soil conditions left behind by unsuitable trailed rollers/compactors is a key factor. Precisely this stage of preparation lays the cornerstone for plant growth during the early stages and has a direct affect on crop yield. Pöttinger offers the right solution for different types of soil with our comprehensive range of trailed rollers for power harrows.

Seedbed preparation – compaction – drilling -> but with the right technology. Pre-compaction in bands should only be used where it is needed. The ground must be able to breath. Bands that are compacted too hard have a negative influence on soil aspiration. In the spring we strive to encourage rapid influx of warmth and dynamic mobilisation of nutrients because active root growth requires a ground temperature of at least 5 degrees. The ideal roller for irregular soil conditions is the crumbling packer roller.

Compaction takes place at a seed depth of between 2.5 and 6.0 cm. That is the depth at which the seed is placed. The special shape of the tools prevents compaction over the whole area. The tools are offset so that where the earth has been pressed downwards, finer earth falls on top. There is no mud and no erosion on slopes because there are no bands left on the surface and there is no smoothing of the surface when the roller passes over. Water does not collect in the seed drill in wet conditions either.
